Should Canada have a Portrait Gallery? ?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under portrait gallery | 4 Comments »

The Conservatives just cancelled the plans for one!
It would create jobs with construction and tourism–modern business wants to be in places that embrace culutre and art.

What I am getting here is this:
We just blew $300M on a pointless election to boost an idiot’s ego. That idiot now has to find a way to make himself look smart and worth this waste, so he cancels plans to add a little culture to our lives and to the tourists who come here.
Short term, the construction and associated businesses can suffer more unemployment. And the idiots who voted this idiot into power sees nothing idiotic about it and the reasons.

They have to start teaching logic in schools again!

Why art painters like Norman Rockwell or Frank Frazetta considered only "illustrators"?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under portrait painters | 5 Comments »

Rembrandt painted portraits for profit. Michelangelo did work for hire. So did virtually all famous artists at one time or other.
Why is it that Rembrandt or DaVinci are considered true artists yet Rockwell only a mere "illustrator"? Renaissance painters painted similar themes and subject matter. They painted murals and portraits. They were all commercial artists. So why do art critics dislike Norman Rockwell, but accept the others? Tell me the distinction between illustrator and a "real" artist?

America’s contribution to folk art is… commercial art. Rockwell’s art was contrived as offset printed pieces giving the best view. Travel anywhere in the world and you will realize the intense competition of America’s many-duplicated products contributed to produced beautiful store shelves. Rembrandt has the appearance of being an illustrator only because he didn’t work for rich bishops, much to Mr. Buonarroti’s discredit. Only one of Michelangelo’s works is in a private collection, and it’s garbage.

Painting is for the soul. Sculpture is for the mind. Rockwell comes in for the gut.

Do you know of any portrait photographers?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under portrait photographers | 10 Comments »

for my coursework i need to research four different portrait photographers, Prefferably ones who all have different styles

Cecil Beaton
Royal portraitist and photographer of the rich and famous. Beautiful soft portraits of woman such as Marliyn Monroe and Ingrid Bergman. Dreamlike quality to his work.

Mario Testino
Major fashion photographer, current Royal portraitist. Photographs of Kate Moss and the 90’s supermodels particularly good. Photography defined by decadence.

Norman Parkinson
Vogue photographer, often photographed his model wife, Wenda Rogerson, characterised by exotic location shoots, quite experimental with the items and places in the photo with his models.

Annie Leibovitz
Her style can be harsh, but some of her subtler work is nice. Her backgrounds are usually very impressive in my opinion but I find her work hard to like overall.

Helmut Newton
Fashion photographer, work often hinted to fetish and bondage, high contrast images glorifying the female body but also constraining it. He also photographed Salvidor Dali.

Man Ray
Favoured experimental and surrealist styles, often photographed nudes. His images are like optical illusions, almost paintings. He worked with Lee Miller, a ‘muse’ to the Surrealists who also starred in Jean Cocteau’s surreal masterpiece “Le Sang d’un Poete” (The Blood of the Poet)

Hope this is some help to you

hey guys so I live in omaha nebraska and im trying to find a portrait studio that me and my boyfriend can get pictures taken at. I want different poses and possibly different backgrounds also. I would also love it if cost under $50 can anybody please help me?

Google is your friend – call some of these
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=omaha+photographers&btnG=Google+Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=

You may get a sitting for under $50 but you will not get a "package" for that price – photographers have to eat as well you know.

What do people usually wear for family portraits?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under portraits | 3 Comments »

My husband and I are taking our son for his first professional portraits he is 3 months and I was wondering what should he wear? He’s our first so I’m to familiar with this. We are also going to have a family portrait done too. I was thinking either beige pants or jeans and either white or black shirts/sweaters. Any advice on what would look best. Also for our sons pics I want a nude one of his cute little butt, is that weird or do most people do that too?

A lot of people do portaits w/ the baby’s bare bottom. We just had our first family portrait at the end of August (my daughter was 2 months). Dad wore a blue button down and my baby girl and I were in pink. The potraits by herself she was stripped down to her diapers and we had gauze all around her, so she looks like a little angel…
