Mixed Media Portrait Painting

Posted by admin on November 30th, 2009 and filed under portrait painting | 2 Comments »

‘How long does it take to paint a portrait?’ I get asked this question a lot, so I thought I would tape myself painting one, from start to finish and find out. It is summer, so uniterrupted studio time is at an all time low. It was a project that took most of the day doing a bit, stopping the tape, kid stuff, food stuff, lizard stuff (don’t ask) and more taping. At the end of the project, the tape shows it took 1 hour and 11 minutes to paint this portrait on watercolor paper. Wow, think of how much painting I could get done if I didn’t have ‘life’ to attend to!

The positive impact that individuals and families have on their communities and/or the larger society is where Portraits comes to life.

Portraits focuses on immigrants in the United States but also opens up to exceptional people of any origin. The intention of this program is to enlighten a broad national and international audience about the many personalities that make up the rich mosaic of American life. Welcomed are people from different cultures, faiths, and ways of life to share their ideas, accomplishments, favorite activities, and private routines on camera in an attempt to paint a more human picture of our world.

From artists and mechanics to civil servants and homemakers, Portraits takes an in-depth look at the lives of people who are making a difference. They are the individuals and families who are secure in their own values and traditions while at the same time at peace and at home with their diverse neighbors.

Self Portrait Artists?

Posted by admin on November 29th, 2009 and filed under portrait artists | 5 Comments »

Can anybody suggest any artists who have made self portraits or just portraits in general that I can draw myself in the style of? I’d like to find some artists who have used photography/magazine cutouts etc rather than artists who paint themselves in a really detailed way. Thanks.

The artist who has made the most self portraits, mostly because the job was so easy, is The Invisible Man. Every time you see one of those still life pictures, chances are it is one of his self-portraits. If you look at them very closely, you will recognize that it is him that you are not seeing in the foreground. Glad to be of help.
