I’m painting an oil painting of a blond child with a pink silk dress and not sure how to go about doing it. I will probably start with a gray under painting to have all the details right but not sure of the next step especially with the pink silk dress. I’ve done the hair before so that’s Ok.
I have it sketched in and a light burnt umber toned canvas.
The question is how do I paint a pink silk dress?
Most painters began with the background, but when painting people, I always begin with them. I would do the childs face, clothes, etc. The skin tones I would use are red-orange, a small amount of burnt umber for the skin tone and a lot of white all mixed together. According to how much burnt umber that is added, you can get different shades of the skin tone and the white , a real light skin tone. I would use the burnt umber for the shadows on the skin as black tends to be too much.Then the hair and the clothes and the background.

it depends on the artist. some are cheap,some are pricey.
also it varies between how big, how detailed,etc. more details and bigger the page more expensive.
i am a digital painter, i did only two portraits, i got charged 20.00 for one of them(they were 8 x10), and other was free. technically i wouldnt know how to price my art, i would have to see how much the person was willing to pay. also it depends on if you want a copy or a digital copy. like i said every person is different but i think for professionals definitely over 50.00. if your interested you can check my gallery(moondustdreams.deviantart.com/gallery)

Have to paint self portrait in the style of a famous painter.?
I just can’t find anybody who interests me. Anybody know an artist (maybe not Cubistic, or those from baroque)?
Picasso was wild and fanciful. Degas was soft. Cassatt was soft. Hopper was very basic and fast-moving. Van Gogh was stylish. No need to take on Vermeer or Holbein! Emulate anyone who had a simple style.
My personal favorite was Frida Kahlo because she was so introspective and spiritual in her self-portraits.
