I have know that the in the portrait paintings the synthetic brush is used but which colors ware use ?

Posted by admin on August 11th, 2011 and filed under portrait paintings | 2 Comments »

which color ? means oil paint or watercolor or other special colors ?

Are you asking which colors are used to make someone’s skin tone? If so.. then I can help you! Everyone’s skin tone is a shade of orange to begin with. you need to mix in brown or black or white to get the right color. Many people have shades of red, green, possibly blue, and yellow. You need to figure out the color for each individual skin tone on your own.

Pablo Picasso self portrait:
http://www.ajmiles.net/artists/pablo-picasso/pablo-picasso-self-portrait.jpg

And speaking of abstract portraits… Did you hear that Pablo Picasso went to his studio early one morning and saw two crooks stealing some of his paintings?
When the police came they brought their sketch artist and asked Picasso for a description. Picasso was incensed that they ask a sketch artist to do the pictures.
“I am the world’s greatest artist!” Pablo proclaimed, and he drew detailed portraits of the thieves .
Aided by those pictures the police quickly arrested a washing machine, and a typewriter!

I am trying to view a gallory of the official portraits of each of the Presidents of the United States. I want a gallery of the actual paintings hanging on the White House walls. Is this possible? Can someone recommend a site?

What should I charge for a child portrait?

Posted by admin on January 28th, 2011 and filed under portrait paintings | 1 Comment »

I’m doing 2 baby portraits for a friend of my mother. They will be oil paintings. 15×11 each. I am a damn good artist but I’ve never done portraiture before. (even went to art school) Problem is I’m not sure what to charge for these. I can’t make it too high because she’s a family friend, but it can’t be too low because I’m flat broke thanks to this crappy economy. Any suggestions on the price?

£25-£30?
Usually portraits that are good cost aboout £50
I guesse cuz they are a family friend if your doing them together cost about £30 or seperately gve them a discount so instead of £60 for 2 paintings it could be £45 for 2

What type of paintings are most people more willing to buy?

Posted by admin on January 23rd, 2011 and filed under portrait paintings | 5 Comments »

As in scenery, a portrait of someone, animals, seascape, etc?
And what type of paintings do people tend to spend more money on???

unless you are an art collector most middle of the road art is portraiture or landscape but with a mood or atmosphere, abstract is also popular for the more progressive types who want to impress their friends at dinner parties, mainly the work has to be simple and easy to look at, the interlectually challenging works are the preserve of gallery collections

What movement are these Frida Kahlo paintings?

Posted by admin on January 18th, 2011 and filed under portrait paintings | 1 Comment »

What movement(s) would the following Frida Kahlo paintings be from?

Self Portrait as a Tehuana
(Autorretrato como Tehuana)

Self Portrait on the Border Between Mexico and the United States
(Autorretrato en la frontera entre México y los Estados Unidos)

Thanks in advance!

Frida’s works are difficult to classify into movements as she herself didn’t want to be identified with a movement. However, there is a lot of Symbolism, Primitivism, folk art and Surrealist influences in her paintings.

Best portrait paintings?

Posted by admin on January 16th, 2011 and filed under portrait paintings | 1 Comment »

in tha world

There are so many. Have a look at this link, for your general interest to begin with?
http://www.npg.org.uk/

After that, I’d say the following.. well, these are JUST SOME of the most famous and brilliant anyway!

Leonardo’s "Mona Lisa"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mona_Lisa

Durer’s "Self Portrait at 28" painted in 1500 is seen as his most important self portrait.. and one of the world’s best! (Sometimes said to be THE best self portrait in the world)
http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/durer/self/

Also, Van Eyke’s self portrait.
http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/paintings/jan-van-eyck-portrait-of-a-man-self-portrait

Rembrant’s "Self Portrait at the Age of 63" would get my vote too!
http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/paintings/rembrandt-self-portrait-at-the-age-of-63
(Look-up his others on Google Images.. there are a lot!)

Seurat’s "Embroidery: The Artist’s Mother" I guess not everyone would add this, but I love it!
http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/works-of-art/55.21.1

Manet’s "A Bar at the Folies-Bergère"
http://www.artandarchitecture.org.uk/images/gallery/dfa40992.html

Klimpt’s " Adele Bloch-Bauer"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Adele_Bloch-Bauer_I_Gustav_Klimt01.jpg
(Look-up "Klimpt Portrait" on Google Images though – there are so many and they are beautiful!)

Kathe Kollwilwitz “Self-portrait,” 1934, lithograph.

Van Gogh’s self portraits are great..
.. and his "Portrait of Dr. Gachet " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portrait_of_Dr._Gachet

Andy Warhol’s " Marilyn Monroe"
Look-up his portraits in general though!

James McNeill Whistler "Arrangement in Grey and Black: The Artist’s Mother"

Leucian Freud’s done some wonderful portraits too. Don’t know which I’d choose, so maybe look him up in general.. His later work, I would argue,(and who wouldn’t?) is masterful!

Picasso did many, many wonderful portraits too.. again I don’t know which I’d choose.. Maybe this one..? "Portrait of Dora Maar Seated"

Frans Hals’ "Laughing Cavalier"

Vermeer – again – what to choose? Look him up on Google Images?

I’m sure to have missed some essentials out here.. but it’s time for bed! :-)

Difference between Renaissance portrait paintings and modern portrait paintings?

Posted by admin on January 13th, 2011 and filed under portrait paintings | 1 Comment »

They spent years working on their paintings. They used a layering technique that was just perfection. They had to work so hard collecting bugs and what not just to make their paint that they made sure each paint stroke was perfect. The difficulty of making paint also eliminated the practice being used by so many others who had less skill than the masters. And you need to remember there was no photography back then and painting was there form of photos. Today anybody can just go buy a tube of paint from the art store. We have photos so many of us don’t feel the need to paint perfect realism. Why not just get a big print from a photo. If it is going to be a painting we might as well show some brush strokes so it looks like a painting. Now don’t get me wrong. There are some amazing artists out there who still use the techniques of the masters. You just don’t hear about them because there are so many other artist swarming the market. Also keep in mind that if an artist paints one perfect amazing painting a year or every six months and another artist paints 300 paintings a year, Whose work do you have better odds of seeing flooding the market?
