I am thinking about opening up my own photography business and setting up the details just want to look at expectation gain for example (first year experience gets 14000 5 years 20000 10 years 35000) and also how much you could make freelance as a general idea

What you make depends on any number of things not least your own marketing skills.

I know photographers who have run at a loss for the last couple of years through to a couple who make over a million (pounds) a year.

Have you done your business plan?
If you have done it properly then you should have a rough idea of what your p&l will be for the first 2-3 years.

If you run at a profit from year one then you are doing better than 75% + business (any businesses).

I need to research some professional portrait for photography and just need some help with who I should look at….

Speaks for itself really, but for my photography second a level year and we’re doing a piece on self portraiture and would like to find some photographers that do some contemporary self portraiture… preferably a young male photographer

There is a huge list if you google, and the first Google entry is Images – fantastic. I googled "male photographers self portraits".

Female photographers – the supreme one is Cindy Sherman, who has used her own body as her subject all her working life. You would not gain points, and even lose some, if you do not mention her. Also, Nan Goldin has used both herself and members of her family, as subjects.

I am looking for inspiration from artists/photographers who do/did photography of people.

I can’t understand the IQ 0s that give a thumbs down to the answer "Yousef Karsh" … Puerile attitude really… Some people should grow up. Karsh defined portraiture in the mid 20th century and was extremely well known and respected for it.

I need names of good famous portrait photographers so i can get inspirations for my portrait photo i’m gonna take in the future.. thanks for your help

Do a search for famous portrait photographers. Annie Lebovitz is a good example but by far not the only one. Look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portrait_painter, at WIKI for a solid definition for the portrait. Look also to the portrait masters in painting and sculpture for ideas from those geniuses. Remember too that the term portrait is changing in front of our eyes as expectations of the sitters become more subtle and refined. The best two questions you can have answered for you before you begin a session is how much does the subject want the viewer to know about him or her and does he/she want to show any emotion. From there you can create your piece.

I know there is the actual Glamour Shots company EVERYWHERE… But I want to compare different photographer’s work. When I search for an individual portrait photographer in google, ALL the photographers that come up specialize in weddings, maternity, babies, families, seniors, everything BUT what I need! And its not for modeling, my mom actually wants me to get it done. She has professional face shots of all her kids that are glam’ed up, and none of me, so she asked me to get it done for a DVD she is putting together of my life, so its not modeling, just for glam up face shots. Can anyone please give me some advice as to where to look, or how to find these photographers? Are they just not in my area? I moved here from southern california, and they were everywhere! I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area now and cant find any besides that Glamour Shots company. Thanks so much!

If you search for portrait photographers and contact them you may find they know makeup artists and can set you up. Any portrait photographer can take the shots. However, you may find it easier to search through the Dallas Fort Worth Makeup Artists and find one that does what you want and ask them to recommend some photographers they work with.

Thinking of the kind of photographers who shoot iconic pictures of rock stars and famous people. Need names?

Gilles Bensimon who is probably THE best, and most sought after high fashion photographer. There is also Annie Leibovitz.

I am mainly focusing on portraiture in film photography, because I love portraiture, but need some inspiration. I’ve already overdone traditional portraiture, and would love to play with shadows and other lighting techniques. So, if you know of any photographers that focus on that the most with their photography, it’d be great for you to share those names.
