Depending on the size of the canvas and how good you are at painting portraits, you can charge anything between $10 to $30. If you are really good at this you can even charge $50 or more. For sketching, amateur artists charge from $1 to $10.

You can try and make a start from Ebay. Art lovers buy amateur paintings and sketches from there all the time. You can start at a low price since you are just a beginner and see how that works out for you and once you get a good following you can increase the price. Be confident about the price you set. It shouldn't be too low or too high and do not lower the prices all of a sudden if you see that you are not getting a good response as it can seem bad. Also once you have sold a couple of paintings you can go on to making a blog or website where you can display your artwork for people to view and buy from. Hope this helps.
References :
http://sharrisonstudios.com/fine_arts.html

Don't know. Prolly not enough though.

Yeah I kind of have that too. I can draw anything perfectly but when it comes to painting I'm mediocre.
