it would depend if one can stand lookin at him/herself for a long period of time (unless they are going for an abstract look). i have done a self a portrait but i used mainly pencils and charcoals. i always thought painting a self portrait can be cheesy, but i never realized until recently that you can express your emotions or your attitude towards yourself by putting yourself in a picture. I paint what I see in me– both the inner and outside me–since painting, like any other work of art is an expression of one’s sensibilities. I’ve tried it and it never worked out right. I am not that good at copying things. Besides I ended up changing details whether I wanted it or not. References :

I sketched myself once and the result was the most evil looking scowly person I’d ever seen. There is no way I would want that in paint anywhere! References :
