for my coursework i need to research four different portrait photographers, Prefferably ones who all have different styles
Cecil Beaton
Royal portraitist and photographer of the rich and famous. Beautiful soft portraits of woman such as Marliyn Monroe and Ingrid Bergman. Dreamlike quality to his work.
Mario Testino
Major fashion photographer, current Royal portraitist. Photographs of Kate Moss and the 90’s supermodels particularly good. Photography defined by decadence.
Norman Parkinson
Vogue photographer, often photographed his model wife, Wenda Rogerson, characterised by exotic location shoots, quite experimental with the items and places in the photo with his models.
Annie Leibovitz
Her style can be harsh, but some of her subtler work is nice. Her backgrounds are usually very impressive in my opinion but I find her work hard to like overall.
Helmut Newton
Fashion photographer, work often hinted to fetish and bondage, high contrast images glorifying the female body but also constraining it. He also photographed Salvidor Dali.
Man Ray
Favoured experimental and surrealist styles, often photographed nudes. His images are like optical illusions, almost paintings. He worked with Lee Miller, a ‘muse’ to the Surrealists who also starred in Jean Cocteau’s surreal masterpiece “Le Sang d’un Poete” (The Blood of the Poet)
Hope this is some help to you

Well Lord Snowdon used to do a lot of Royals. Karsh of Ottowa, years ago. I think even David Bailey did some. How about Norman Parkinson. All dead I know but then I am old fashioned.

Iv’e got one!
Her name is Terri Lee-Shield, shes a female photographer who works with teenagers to create portfolio images, that will get them noticed for an acting career!
She specifically take shots which are age relevant and gives you several looks which casting agents are looking for from teenage models. Her shots have a modern edgy feel and are perfect for models aged between 12-17 years old!
She specialises in creating varied and eye-catching portfolios. She doesn’t just take a couple of shots in a boring studio, her mission in life is to capture the very best in every client.

This shows most of her work and tells you about it in more detail!
I hope I helped a bit!

Karsh of Ottawa (Yousef Karsh) is a famous portrait photographer. So are Richard Avendon, and Irving Penn.

Right, theres thousands upon thousands of portrait photographers out there, possibly one of the more favoured forms of photography. If i were you i would look at Diane Arbus. She has some very interesting work, although some of it is very discomforting to some people. Annie Leibovitz, she did the photograph of Demi Moore pregnant, if you’ve seen it was a very famous photo on vanity fair. David Bailey. he did some of the most famous black and white portraits, for example Mick Jagger, and Paul Macartney and John Lennon. Finally Cindy Sherman, her photos are very intresting and if i remember correctly i beleive she regularly used herself as the model. (Still portrait tho not self portrait). If you dont like these photographers, there are many more. for example Cartier Bresson did some Portrait, Cecil Beaton and i cant remember andy more off the top of my head at the mo:P. Hope this helps. Good luck with your coursework.
