kinda, but not really. i think its like the marauders map thing 2.

think of a portrait in HP like a memory. it will have the person's same personalities and traits and will not grow or age beyond what is put to the canvas. you can bet that it differs from the photographs due to some magical paint and brush techniques (man, JK Rowling would love these questions I bet). they can travel from one paitning to another of themselvesto keep themselves amused and entertained, but can not move outside of the frame without going into another portrait.

I think of the moving portraits to be sort of like Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs in the Marauder's Map...it just reacts like they would.
