    When I was a kid (3rd grade or so) I sharpened my pencils like that with my scissors.
    My teacher flipped her lid. She thought I was crazy, or I was going to accidentally hurt myself.
    I had to miss recess. :<

    Im also an artist and holding the pencil is different then just writing a letter, it depends if you are drawing or shading, and in what direction. Its not that hard, just do whats best for you. These videos really help!

    It’s like properly holding a drum stick incorrectly, in the long run it’s going to be harder to imitate someone with the proper grip, but of course it can be done.

    Does it really matter how you hold a pencil? I have no coordination using the tripod grip. I hold it with my thumb pointer finger and middle finger. Im right handed as well.

    True, but it’s also good to learn new ways of doing things, and it’s good to practice with them especially (like he said) when it helps you transfer from drawing to painting, or like with the sharpening, it helps you to save lead and get more for your money, just saying.
